Carnivals are a great way for nippers to test their skills with peers and learn to experience and respect the rules and regulations of healthy competition. U/7 are not eligible to attend.

Byron Bay Surf Club Nippers compete in the Far North Coast (FNC) Branch with three Carnivals conducted over the season, including a Team Carnival in Byron Bay. The Far North Coast Branch Titles are held in February over a weekend to allow team and individual events to occur. The Far North Coast Branch extends from Kingscliff (Cudgen) in the North to Yamba in the south.

Byron Bay also competes in the NSW Country Titles and NSW State Titles, held in January and March respectively. The attached Carnival Guide has more information about these Events.

All U/8’s to U/14’s Junior Surf Life Savers are eligible to compete at theFNCbranch carnivals, both the NSW Country Junior Titles and the NSW State Junior Titles.

All U/11 to U/14 members are eligible to participate in the Inter-branch selection trials.

It is NOT compulsory for Junior Surf Life Savers to compete at any carnivals.

Parents must advise the respective Age Managers if their children if they are attending a Carnival. Your Age Manager will also be able to answer any questions about Carnivals.

Parents are required to ensure their child is at the correct event and to assist the Age Manager as much as possible. In order to compete at Branch Carnivals every U8 to U14 competitor must have completed their Preliminary Skills Assessment.

To be eligible to compete, a junior member must have completed the Junior Activities/Nippers Preliminary Skills Evaluation and the Junior Activities/Nippers Competition Skills Evaluation. This is for competition outside of club competition, such as Sunday nipper club races and club championships.

To be eligible to compete at a championship event they also need to have achieved the appropriate surf education award for their age by 31st December. Any member who has not completed these requirements by the 31st December who seeks to compete must apply in writing to the State Director of Lifesaving clearly identifying reasons for not completing requirements by 31st December.
