Sign-On and Proficiency Day on Sunday 11 October 2020
Each season, all Nippers, rookies and experienced members alike, are required to do a Water Proficiency to start the season. This proficiency is a mandated requirement of Surf Lifesaving NSW and ensures all Age Managers and Water Safety Officers are aware of a child’s abilities in the water and what type of assistance they might require. Due to COVID safety measures and the current conditions at Main Beach Byron Bay, proficiencies will be staggered by age group throughout the morning. Please ensure that your Nippers are at the main entrance to the Byron Bay Surf Club Hall (facing onto the intersection of Bay and Fletcher Streets) at the following times;
U12s, U13s and U14s 8.00am
U11s 8.30am
U10s 8.45am
U9s 9.00am
U8s 9.30am
U7s 10.00am
When you arrive, parents/carers are to stay with their Nipper to finalise their registration and meet your Age Manager. Nippers new to BBSLSC will be provided with a branded fluro pink rashie and a skull cap which must be worn each Nippers Day. Replacement rashies and caps are $20 each. Nippers will then move to the beach with their Age Manager to complete their proficiency and officially start their season – yay!
Parents/Carers will need to be on the beach with their Nipper/s for supervision however only qualified Age Managers, Age Assistants and Water Safety Officers are permitted to work directly with the children on the beach. Age Managers will mark out safe distances on the beach for parents/carers to supervise from. Supervising parents and carers are to maintain a COVID safe distance of 1.5meters from people not in their household.
