Introduction to Nipper Activities:

Nippers is open to children from the age of 7 through to 13 years old at the Byron Bay Surf Club. Children need to be able to swim before coming to Nippers. Nippers does not teach children how to swim.

The nippers program runs from October to March. It comprises of 3 elements:

  1. Nipper Days: This is conducted on Sunday (9am – 11am) which incorporates surf education formulated by Surf L:ife Saving Australia. A minimum 70% attendance is necessary to receive a SLSA Education Award at the end of each season.
  2. Junior Training: These training sessions are conducted on most Wednesdays (6- 7 am) to provide board training and Ironman and Ironwoman Training. This is in preparation for carnivals and to improve general skills and fitness.
  3. Carnivals: There are a variety of carnivals both in the Far North Coast region and various NSW country areas throughout the season that give the nippers an opportunity to test their skills with peers and have fun in competition. Both Nipper Days and Junior Training prepare the nippers for carnivals.
